Card: One Punch, Several Uses

February 26, 2014

With all the fancy new tools and fancy thingamajig cutting systems out there I think we often forget that creativity is about looking at things in  unconventional ways. Today's cards do just that showing how one punch has several uses besides it's given one.

For both of the cards I used the EK Success Photo Label Large Punch that I purchased at Joann's but can be found at many of the craft retailers (link above is for EK Success store). This punch is their new design and although it is bigger than my hand it's one of the easiest punches I've ever punched with.

The first card I created is a gender neutral card (It'd be more gender neutral if I had used black cardstock instead of baby blue, but nonetheless).
I pictured the skinniest label from the punch flipped vertically to look like skyscrapers and buildings. If you wanted to get a little more fancy you could even add some windows to give it that definite skyline look.

The card base is from one of those box sets that I purchased at Hobby Lobby for $5 although you can also find these pre-cut card boxes at Joann's and Michael's most likely. The sentiment is by Studio G and as usual is stamped in Memento black ink.

This next card, however not too creative still is something a little more different.

Using the same punch, cardstock, and stamp I made a portrait oriented card featuring a flower I had received in a swap a while back.

I want to say that the "labels" almost act as leaves, but really they don't. They're more of a radiating thing to draw attention to the sentiment and flower. The creativity in this card is really found in using these at such weird angles, usually people (including myself) don't do repetitive punched patterns. However if they do they tend to run three either horizontally and or vertically.

If you have some creative uses for your punches share them with me and you could be featured on my blog! Thanks for stopping by, hope you were inspired!
