What to do the two weeks before you move to college!

August 05, 2014

My official countdown has begun! Only 14 days left and I am beyond excited for move in day!

Today I decided to share a few things that are on my list of "to-dos" for this week!

1. Look up you're designated move in time or orientation time!

My school Rochester Institute of Technology, has one orientation for all of it's freshman students and this is just a week before classes start. So technically I move in earlier than a lot of friends do, so my "move-in/orientation schedule" is quite extensive! However for those of you with just regular move-ins there are sometimes still schedules and activities for the whole family! This is your one and only freshman move-in be sure to take it in and don't push away your parents.

2. Find out your address and exchange yours with your friends!

This idea seems really fun to me. In my other post, What to do in the 33 days left you have before college I mentioned this idea also. Now, I have expanded on the idea and after scavenging several stores to find an address book (WHY IS IT SO HARD TO FIND THESE?!?) I finally find one at Wal-Mart, but not my local one nonetheless.
The next thing you should do when you find your address is to forward your magazine subscriptions and bills, or make them electronic, whatever works for you.

3. Make sure your packing list is organized efficiently and has everything on it!

Don't just assume your mom will remind you to pack socks and underwear, she's too frazzled herself to remember, so write it down! I divided my list into sub-categories including: bathroom, bedding, kitchen, food I want, and miscellaneous (and more).

4. Start Packing!

Personally, I feel that packing is not a chore, but actually fun! One tip is if you're using boxes to pack, color coat your packing list so you know which box has what in it. For example if your bathroom stuff is in one box, put a piece of blue duct tape on the outside of the box and on your list put blue next to each item that you've packed inside the box! Makes sure you've packed everything as well as makes it easier to pack when you really need to find toilet paper.

5. Start looking into clubs/organizations

If you start doing this now, you'll be excited about college and also you'll have less stress at the organizations fair! Be sure to also not overwhelm yourself for your first semester.
