The 14 Best Movies of 2014 // In My Opinion

7:00:00 AM

Looking back at 2014 it was a year of a lot of great movies, but let's be honest what year isn't? Here's a few of my favorites of the past year (in no particular order)! As a disclaimer this is only for movies that I got to see in 2014, so I'm sure there are a few great ones missing, but it's only because I haven't seen them yet! Here we go!

1. Guardians of the Galaxy

I saw this movie I think three times now and it was nothing like I expected. The music was great and the characters were awesome (Groot being my favorite).

2. The Lego Movie

Now a proud owner of this movie it was very unique and I had no idea what to expect at first. Very good movie for both children and grown ups, plus the song is really catchy.

3. Gone Girl

Can I just say woah? This movie blew my mind. So many plot twists and turns I was on the edge of my seat! A very, very interesting movie. (SPOILER: Not a good movie if you get queasy over blood). You can also find a review of this movie by yours truly, here!

4. Into the Woods

This movie with the star studded cast including Chris Pine, Anna Kendrick, and Meryl Strep just to name a few. I hadn't seen the original musical, but Disney did a good job at keeping it family friendly. Here's my review of Into the Woods!

5. Big Hero 6

Another of my personal Disney favorites of the year. There was a lot of hype going around for this movie so I had to see it! I must admit it is a bit of tear jerker.

6. Interstellar

Another tear jearker for me, but an insanely amazing movie. If you have not seen Interstellar you absolutely must. It was beyond breathtaking.

7. Maleficent

This was a really interesting movie that showed Maleficent's point of view for the tale of Sleeping Beauty. I liked the back story for this one a lot.

8. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

Really disappointed that the Mockingjay had to be put into two movies, but the first part definitely leaves you wanting more!

9. Divergent

Woah, this action packed movie was great. I thought Shailene Woodley did a phenomenal job as Tris. I'm not sure if this followed the books to a "T", but I have heard they do quite a bit.

10. Maze Runner

Another action packed movie that was way better than expected. Dylan O'Brien was the lead male role and I really enjoyed his performance. The plot line is a little confusing, but if you pay attention you'll get the hang of it.

11. The Giver

As one of my favorite author's books comes to life, The Giver was a really really great movie. It was not the same as reading the book, but it was still a great movie.

12. Let's Be Cops

I saw this as a joke movie with a few of my friends, but this was a really funny movie. It was also more action packed than I thought it would be. I've watched it again since the original viewing and it's still funny.

13. That Awkward Moment

This movie featuring Zac Efron, is a really cute romance story with quite a few humorous parts. It was a really cute movie.

14. Jersey Boys

Last, but not least, Jersey Boys. After seeing this twice on Broadway I just had to see the movie! The music was great as well as the actors and if you don't know the story of the Jersey Boys then you need to watch this movie.

And there you have it! Let me know your favorite movies from 2014 in the comments below!
