Tropical Watercolor Shaker Card // Card Fail

January 21, 2016

Hello all! Today, I have a new and exciting project to share with you. I believe this year may be the year of firsts because this will be my very first time using my watercolor pencils on a project and my first time making a shaker card! However, it being my first shaker card, it may be a little bit of a fail. I must admit to you though that I didn't plan on making a shaker card at first. So, let's focus on my cute watercolor pencil work! :)

I started this card like many others with a base made of kraft cardstock cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2". Then I somehow managed to cut out the middle rectangle using my paper trimmer to squeeze in the white cardstock with my beautiful coloring!

These cute little creatures from the sea are from the cutest stamp set by Inkadinkado! I love them and I finally got to use them, woohoo! Anywho, I made a collage of them clustered in the bottom corner and colored them using my new watercolor pencils and my aqua brush.

To acheive the look I did, apply your color to one side of your open area and then use your brush and a little bit of water to fade the color to the other side. A very nice and gentle watercolor look. I really wish I had added some color in the background to give the card some more dimension.

Now onto how this card is a little bit of a fail. One, the sequins tend to cover up the images. Two, I didn't use foam adhesive to attach the sequin panel, so they don't have much shimmy room. Oh well though! You'll see my second attempt at a shaker card in video form soon, so keep an eye out! That's it for today and I hope you enjoyed. :)
