VIDEO: Shakes // 12x12 Layout Process Video

September 03, 2016

One of my favorite treats are milkshakes. I don't get them too often, but I love them! My boyfriend and I went to Johnny Rockets one day and split a cookies and cream milkshake. It was a delicious milkshake too! So, I decided to document this little outing we had.

This 12x12 layout was really fun to make and I liked experimenting with a new color combo. The mint and coral combination really went along with the fun time I was trying to capture. I had also recently seen someone else share a layout where they put a layout at the top and the bottom of the layout. I really loved the idea (sorry I can't remember who posted it), but I'm going to run with the idea as you'll see in the process video below! I hope you enjoy!

In the process video I discuss how I fidgeted with a lot of the items on this layout. I didn't have an exact layout design in mind, but as previously mentioned, I did know I wanted to off set two doilies. So once I established that and my middle paper selection, I started adding other things.

I somehow got on this color scheme of coral, mint, and mustard yellow which turned out better than expected! Have you all ever made a color combo that turned out better than anticipated?

The overall layout shows three different cluster groups which helps move the eye around the page (a great design principle to follow). My top cluster utilizes the smaller doily and I did some fun clustering on top! I thought that this fun yellow banner from Elle's Studio was perfect for this layout! I also added a Pretty Little Studio mint feather sticker, a Project Life @ symbol wood veneer, and a Simple Stories tiny word sticker from the Carpe Diem collection. I also did some stamping on this layout using my Dear Lizzy roller phrase stamp.

The middle cluster here was more of a happy accident. The paper pad that I used for the background paper (DCWV Mini Album Stack) has clear/white stickers included in it. I loved this ampersand and decided to have it peek out from behind my photos which are matted on some paper from the Crate Paper Notes & Things 6x6 paper pad. I then realized that the sticker by itself looked out of place. Rummaging through my embellishments and stickers I found the perfect addition! This yellow phrase sticker is from My Mind's Eye and it was perfect! I wanted to add a few more little bits so I grabbed a small chipboard flower sticker from BoBunny Modern Miss and then included a Studio Calico wood veneer arrow.

My bottom left cluster again contains a doily with a fun embellishment cluster as well as a title. I first pulled out this little ticket piece from the same BoBunny collection as the little flower and fidgeted where that was going so many times! I ended up bringing some more elements before finally being able to settle on where to put it. I used a Jot mint sticker that it a fun tab shape, and incorporated another wood veneer piece, this time a heart from Project Life. Over the whole layout I sprinkled some Heidi Swapp Butter Color Shine splatters all over.

That pretty much finishes up this layout! I hope you enjoyed the interesting design and color scheme. If you have any questions I would be more than happy to answer them! I will have as many products used on this layout as I can find on the internet listed down below! Thanks for stopping by!
