VIDEO: Paper Pads: 6x6 Fix! // Summer Pup - Fringe Technique

October 22, 2016

It is a very, very exciting day today here on the blog! I am introducing a new series on my YouTube channel and on the blog. This series focuses on using our 6x6 paper pads in new ways to attempt to inspire us to pull them out of our stash and to get them onto some pages! I hope you're as excited as I am for this series and let's get in to the first technique to use up some 6x6 papers! This page was totally inspired by a layout I saw @alltheneffyness post on her Instagram. She always posts great layouts and inspiration, so be sure to check out her account.

This layout packs a punch with color! I used only patterned papers from the Pink Paislee-Citrus Bliss 6x6 paper pad. These is a great paper pad for those summer photos of your family or even your pets. I decided that this lovely photo of Comet on the deck would be perfect for these summery colors. Now to dive into the process of the layout!

I hope you enjoyed the video, I have plenty of more photos and details to share about this layout down below. At the very end, I will also have links to purchase the products or similar products used on this layout.

The main focus of this layout (besides the photo) is the beautiful cascade of feathered papers on the right side. Some may say that this layout isn't balanced and they are right, but there aren't rules that layouts always have to be balanced. Take a risk on one of your layouts and try out this technique. This could also easily be applied to 8 1/2" x 11" layouts as well. For this layered technique I cut each 6x6 piece of paper into 2" x 6" strips. Depending on how many layers you want in total will determine how many strips you need to cut. I did this measurement because I knew that if I wanted each layer to appear about 1" then I would need 12 pieces in total (3 2" x 6" strips from each 6x6 patterned paper means I could pick out 4 different patterned papers).

The smaller details on the left side of the layout try and balance out the business of the right hand side. I found the perfect little card from Elle's Studio that matched the color scheme of the layout so beautifully. Then, I slipped in a cute Pretty Little Studio tab to write the date on next to that. The lovely lace detailing from the Freckled Fawn square doily adds some delicacy to the layout.

I wanted to attempt to balance the right side a little bit more by adding a small cluster and my title to the top left of the page. There were so many spots I could've place my title, but I settled on this location due to the imbalance. The cluster features a punch of the patterned paper and a BoBunny chipboard flag. The title is made out of Sticko puffy letter stickers. Although I'm not 100% happy with how the title turned out, I'm glad that it still adds interest to the layout.

I added a cute little Tim Holtz phrase sticker  beneath my photo (because who doesn't love them?!). I also plan on adding my journaling under there as well. I used some Darice pearls to add some detail around the embellishments too. Lastly, I used my Heidi Swapp Color Shine in the color butter to add some splatters around the page.

That's pretty much it for this layout guys. I hope you enjoyed it! I'm really excited to start this new series and I am also hoping to start posting more than once every week on my YouTube channel as well. Be sure to go subscribe so you don't miss any more video postings from me! I hope you enjoy this idea for a series and if you do please let me know. Thanks for stopping by!
