VIDEO: 6x6 Fix! // Hooligan Life - Half Circle Technique

July 27, 2017

Hi friends! I am super, super excited to be bringing back the 6x6 Fix series! In this series I explore different ways to use your 6x6 papers in fun ways on your layouts. Let's be honest we all have way, way too many paper pads for our own good, so let's get to using them! In today's episode I am featuring a couple different collections which I will go into further detail later in this post. Essentially, I used inspiration from the Spiegel Mom Scraps Instagram page and ran with this half circle idea. So, let's dive into this episode of 6x6!

I started by pulling out my photos of my parents acting like hooligans. I wanted something playful for these photos. I used this background from Three Bugs in a Rug as a base. Then, I dove into my 6x6 paper pads to pull out some patterns. The collections I feature here are Introspective by Prima, Garden Party by Pebbles, Notes & Things by Crate Paper, and another collection from Pebbles.

Essentially, I just used a 2 inch circle punch to cut circles and then I cut those in half. I wasn't too fussy as to whether or not they lined up exactly. I then used a t-square ruler to make straight lines for my lines. I then decided to do some hand stitching! You'll see me in the process video poke all of the holes, but I actually took the stitching part to go. I posted about it on my Instagram story (@GrayFlorals) and sewing in the car was definitely an adventure. Once the stitching was complete I moved on to matting my photos.

I matted the photos using the same patterned papers I used for my half circles. This helps keep the color scheme on the layout fluid. In the bottom left I created a cluster. I used the Tim Holtz phrase sticker as a base. I then included a beautiful dimensional butterfly from Recollections. I've mentioned this before, but these butterflies are the exact patterns from the Pebbles Garden Party, which I find very odd. I also used a puffy sticker from Pink Paislee.

I also sprinkled some enamel dots around the page. I used two different brands. The light blue circles and triangles are from Freckled Fawn and the light pink are from Echo Park's Metropolitan Girl collection. I think that adding these shiny textures in with all of the flat paper textures adds a nice highlight and accent to the layout.

In the cluster to the left of the photos I used a Simple Stories Carpe Diem diecut for my journaling. Then, I used a cut apart from Pebbles that says "smile" paired with an Elle's Studio sticker, and a KI Memories paper clip as a cluster. To the right of the photos, I used doily to create a base for my title. I made this title using Studio Calico block stickers and a Carpe Diem diecut. I also included another butterfly and another Tim Holtz phrase sticker.

I really loved the way this layout came out! I'm very happy with the stitching and all of the textures on this layout. I hope you enjoyed this episode of 6x6 Fix! Thanks for stopping by!
