VIDEO: Double Take - Double Page 12x12 Layout Process Video // Snow Pup

February 01, 2018

Happy February friends and welcome back to my blog! I'm very happy to be kicking off this new month with a brand new series to my channel and blog! I am starting a new series that was highly requested called Double Take! I will be sharing double page layout process videos in this series with various amounts of photos and themes. I definitely want this series to benefit all of those double page lovers out there, so if that is you, please let me know what you would like to see. For example maybe you want 10+ photos on a page or doing unique non-grid style layouts. Just let me know in the comments what you would like to see. Now let's hop in to this fun spread!

The two pages are on the same patterned paper. I featured this Craft Smith Co paper pad in quite a few videos recently, but I'm really enjoying scrapbooking winter photos at the moment. I'll be switching over to brighter scrapbooking in my other series called Color Theories and that has a ton of color! I went for a simple approach for the first Double Take spread. Two simple film strip style photo lines. The left page features my dog, Comet, running through the snow and the right page shows three photos of us together in the snow. I hope you enjoyed this design and process video!

It has been a while since I had created a double page spread and I'm really happy with how it came out. I'm really excited to try this series out for you all. It'll flex my creative muscles in some new ways on design and story telling. Enjoy the process video below!

The real success for having a nice double page layout is a lot of photos! The number of photos should also be balanced by some white space. I try to include generous white space on double page layouts. I find that since there are so many photos, the eye needs a lot of places to rest.

I wanted to build in a journaling spot on this layout and I had the perfect card to do it! This card is from Cheeky Studio's adorable Christmas kit. I cut off a tiny bit on the top so it fit just under the pattern papers and ta-da! I decorated it with a couple of bits including a diecut from the same collection, a Heidi Swapp puffy sticker, some glitter washi, and a wood veneer. Simple embellishing line this helps keep the journaling the main attraction in this section.

I think double page layouts are the perfect place for giant titles. There's no shortage of giant with these American Crafts letter stickers. They are a really interesting pattern and texture. I'm lucky to have found some letters that would make a great title for this page!

With such a large surface area to work with, I find that my clusters tend to be on the smaller side, but more frequent. I do a couple of mini clusters rather than a few larger clusters. These wood veneer snowflakes are definitely the "main" embellishment on my pages. Varying the texture, colors, type, and height help move the eye around the page.

These small clusters consist of flair, wood veneers, enamel dots, labels, stickers, puffy stickers, diecuts and more. I fell in love with this small bird diecut from the Cheeky Studio collection. The flair also happens to be from there!

My first double page layout in my Double Take series! I hope you are looking forward to more double page layouts. As previously mentioned, this is a highly requested series and I'm super excited for it! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Beautiful layout and wonderful story. I love that name Comet! I like the idea of using project life page as the second page for a 2 pager but it gets tricky when your photos are the wrong orientation and what to do with the back? So more videos on ‘proper’ 2 page LOs yes please!

    1. Thank you Lesley! I have the same problem with my pocket pages! I hope this series will continue to inspire you for double pagers! :)
